Help for Haiti: Learn What You Can Do The South Austin Democrat
The South Austin Democrat
Ready for War (1 of 3)

2010 is obviously going to be a huge year, in one way or another, for Democrats. How we handle this election, in order to be victorious, is going to require three things that will be discussed on this blog throughout the week:

1. A reminder of what America was like with the GOP in control.

2. A firm commitment to live up to campaign promises made in 2008.

3. Growing a pair

Let’s start with number one:

Life in a GOP USA:

Most sane adults can remember the Bush years. Rampant corruption, abuse of the Constitution, and thousands of needlessly lost lives were just a few major themes under the Republicans. The GOP seems to have a short memory, however, as they are falsely accusing the Democrats and President Obama of some of the same things they were guilty of. Hypocrisy and lying are sadly nothing new in politics, but what is new is the level and severity of which it has been occurring.

Beyond the rhetoric, the lack of leadership from the GOP has been appalling. Thanks to treasonous windbags on the right-wing fringe, the GOP has somehow gained the notion that Americans will respond to “NO” as a tangible campaign message. Without clear alternatives, and true to form, the GOP has attempted to shoot down every single piece of meaningful legislation for partisan gain. Imagine, if you will, if we had another “do-nothing” federal government that focused more on keeping gay people from spending their lives with each other, solely to appeal to their “Christian” base (by the way, for opponents of gay marriage who have based their decisions on Leviticus, you should really read the whole Book. If you’re going to regulate marriage, you might as well be consistent and enact the death penalty for anyone who works on The Sabbath, as well as the price regulation of slaves… just a thought)

Republicans know that our current sad state of affairs are a direct result of eight years of horrible incompetency. Indeed, whenever someone on the Left makes any comparison to the 00’s, the Right cries foul and claims that Democrats are still running against Bush.

My message to you, Republicans: You’re Goddamn right we are. The abuses of the previous administration were far too egregious to simply forget in one cycle. You folks still have a lot of ‘splainin to do.

But know this:

Anytime you point out something Democrats are doing wrong, we’ll call you on it.

Anytime you criticize Pres. Obama’s response to terrorism while ignoring the thousands of lives lost on 9/11 by saying that we never had a terror attack under Bush, we’ll call you on it.

Anytime you criticize the lack of action from Washington since 2008, be sure that we will mention your role in it.

If you think for a moment that my party is going to cave and hand you electoral victories without a fight, you’re wrong. Democrats love our country far too much to let it fall back in your abusive hands, and we’re done playing nice.

In conclusion, its time to fight for the future of the Star-Spangled Banner. I’m ready for war. Are you?

Oh this is hilarious. I guess Republicans are getting a teensy bit nervous about how 2010 might turn out for them in Texas… just look at this page. I could go on about how silly this group is, and I probably will when I have more time on my hands, but… well, I’ll let you decide for yourselves what message this page sends.

South Austin Dem vs. The Lunatic Fringe

Quite the day today! My campaign snagged an endorsement from the NAACP (thank y’all!), I had a chat with the United States Secret Service (read on for more on that conversation), I broke down and started a Twitter (thanks for the shout out Rachel!), and consumed twice my body weight in coffee.

Oh, right, you’re probably wondering about the Secret Service. Well, while at work and skimming Facebook’s news feed, I came across a Huffington Post article about President Obama’s trip to Allentown, PA today to plug his economic agenda. But it wasn’t the article that caught my eye. It was this lovely little nugget of southern hospitality from a Mr. Chad Ward out of Atlanta:

“As a small matter of fact people, no matter how much damage this Hate driven animal Obama does to our great country, I know we will come back better and stronger after he is long gone. Hopefully very very soon. Hey Obama you LIE , and for you, success is not an option. You have pissed off the wrong people you childish Liberal puke”

Not only is that tremendously offensive, but I viewed it as a threat against a sitting president. So, I hopped on the phone and called the Secret Service to let them in on what was up. I will say, it was odd to start a phone call with “Hi, I’d like to report a threat against the President, please.”

The call itself was rather uneventful. The agent took down all of the info, said “thank you”, and hung up. I suppose this sort of thing must happen all the time, as it was a very quick phone call. Hopefully they follow up and nail this guy. I’ll update you all if I hear anything back from USSS… not likely, but hey who knows?

Crackpots are a dime-a-dozen in this country, but I draw the line at threatening the President of the United States. I would have done the exact same thing if Bush had been threatened, and its just one example of a larger theme this blog will address: where has America put its head nowadays?

Thanks for reading, and check back daily for more posts… or twice daily. Your call.
